Continuing education requirements for:Maine Dentist (DMD)

License Renewal Cycle: Every 2 years

Total Credits: 40

Special Note: CE must be: Directly related to dental practice and Completed during the preceding biennial license term. A current BLS certification is required for renewal and a Maximum 3 CE hours can be earned per license term. Dentists renewing for the first time must: Complete 20 CE hours (½ of the 40-hour requirement).

General CE Requirements

  • Total Credits: 31

  • Frequency: Every 2 years

Specialty Requirements

  • Opiate Prescribing
    • Total Credits: 3

    • Frequency: Every 2 years

    • Conditions:

      • Required only if the dentist prescribes opioid medication

  • Deep Sedation / General Anesthesia
    • Total Credits: 6

    • Frequency: Every 0 years

    • Conditions:

      • At least 6 of the 40 CE hours must be in: Sedation and/or anesthesia, Physical diagnosis, Complications, Techniques. Applies only if the dentist holds a Board-issued sedation permit
