Specialty Requirements

  • SBIRT
    • Total Credits: 2

    • Frequency: One Time

    • Conditions:

      • The following continuing medical education (CME) courses must be completed within 2 years of your initial licensure, and need only be completed one time.

  • Cultural Competency
    • Total Credits: 2

    • Frequency: Every 2 years

    • Conditions:

      • If you are a physician assistant working with a psychiatrist as your supervising physician

  • Professional Ethics
    • Total Credits: 2

    • Frequency: Every 2 years

    • Conditions:

      • Every active PA must complete at least 2 credits in Ethics or Pain Management

  • Suicide Prevention
    • Total Credits: 2

    • Frequency: Every 4 years

    • Conditions:

      • Must be completed within 2 years of initial licensure and every 4 years thereafter

  • Pain Management
    • Total Credits: 2

    • Frequency: Every 2 years

    • Conditions:

      • Every active PA must complete at least 2 credits in Pain Management or Ethics.

  • HIV/Stigma Education
    • Total Credits: 2

    • Frequency: One Time

    • Conditions:

      • Required for PAs who provide or supervise EMS or primary care in certain settings within 2 years of beginning that care
